Diagnostic Hearing Evaluations
Like many other health issues, ignoring a hearing problem may worsen the problem. If you have noticed a decline in the quality of your ability to hear, or if you are caring for someone who has difficulty hearing and understanding you in conversation, speak to your primary care physician first. You may be referred to an ear, nose, and throat specialist to rule out any medical causes.
You may also be sent to an audiologist for a hearing evaluation. As part of this evaluation, we use the standards for accurate hearing health diagnosis, including:
- Pure tone audiometry to test for hearing loss
- Speech Audiometry to test how softly and clearly you can hear
- Immittance measures to evaluate the health of your eardrum and middle ear.
- Otoacoustic Emission Testing (OAE) to measure the health of the outer hair cells in the cochlea.
Following your hearing evaluation we can work together to find the best way to improve your hearing and your quality of life. When detected early, many hearing problems can be treated and further decline can possibly be prevented.
