Central Auditory Processing Evaluation
Central Auditory Processing Disorder (CAPD) can occur in children and adults, and causes difficulty comprehending and processing speech in people with normal hearing. Our audiologist specializes in Central Auditory Processing Evaluations which can measure how well the brain is receiving and processing sounds.
The evaluations consist of tests in several categories including:
- Monaural low-redundancy speech
- Dichotic speech
- Temporal patterning
- Binaural interaction
Once the Central Auditory Processing Evaluation is complete, CAPD can be managed or remediated through three main therapies:
- The use of hearing aids or assistive listening devices to enhance sound.
- Improving language and comprehension abilities with specialized computer programs.
- Improving listening and language processing with auditory training and therapy.
